My second graders love the website www.coolmathgames4kids.com It is loaded with fun math games and logic games. The website has a dark background with bright neon colors. Very appealing to kids. The current favorite game of the boys in my class is “Sticky Ninja Academy”. How can you go wrong with a name like that?
Have I mentioned how much I love www.internet4classrooms.com ?! This is a great place to start when looking for games to play on your interactive whiteboard or student computers. Everything is broken down by grade level, skill, or common core standard. Instead of doing a random internet search, start your search on this website.
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, I thought it would be fun to listen to some Irish Music. This was a last minute idea so I had nothing prepared. I pulled out my cell phone and went to my Pandora app. In less than a minute my second graders were dancing to Irish music and having a great time. If you are ever in need of music in your classroom, don’t forget about Pandora!
This week I tried out Story Starters by Scholastic. My kids and I had a ball writing about the favorite sport of a friendly spy who can see the future. This is a great site for fun writing prompts for the younger kids. If you have an interactive white board you can write the story collaboratively and guide them through the process. Lots of fun. http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/story-starters/
Kids love to have you read books to them, and love to read books online. Check out this website that will take you to 10 sites for children’s stories. I have tried some of them out in my classroom, and the kids loved them! I can’t wait to try out the rest.
www.quizlet.com is a fun website where you can create flash cards for review and practice. There are also thousands of cards made by other teachers available for you to use. Along with the flash cards, there are fun games you can play. This video shows my second grade class playing a game on the interactive whiteboard where they had to match a definition with a vocabulary word. They love this game! http://youtu.be/yDPhO53c2dM
This week my students and I created a Voki to thank their parents for sending them to a Catholic School. We had so much fun and it was something different than making a traditional card.
